Energy Minister Saurabh Patel refutes Congress allegations regarding benefiting private power companies

Gandhinagar: Energy Minister Saurabhbhai Patel has given the detailed facts on the baseless and fake allegations being made by Congress for benefiting four private power industries of Gujarat.

Today Gujarat is at the forefront in power sector due to its reforms- initiatives and performance in power sector in last one and a half decade.

All four discoms of Gujarat have been leading with A+ rating compared to power companies of other States.

State government has taken several measures to ensure that all power consumers of Gujarat get adequate electricity without any problem.

Under the Purchase policy of Central Government, State Government has signed agreement at competitive prices with private power industries for power purchase to ensure that the consumers get sufficient power. Details of which are as follows:

Energy Minister clearly said that, none of the State has signed the power purchase agreement on price lower than Gujarat.

Thus due to such low rate agreement the average power tariff has remained low as the State Government has purchased power from various source from year 2011-12 to 2017-18 which has resulted benefit of saving Rs.21,619 Crore to power consumers in last seven years

Gujarat has been awarded with more than 150 awards in just last 10 Years.

Patel added that Gujarat is the only State where there is no power cut and 18000 villages get three phase electricity 24 hours.

Briefing about the State Power companies Mr. Patel said that, power generation of 18,218 MW has been raised in last one and a half decade. 1,139 new sub-stations have been implemented. New power connections have been given to 8,83,000 farmers and New power connections have been given to 72 lakh consumers.

Gujarat’s BJP government is committed to provide easy, cheap and uninterrupted electricity to consumers. Congress is not interested in anything except opposing, he added.
