2 year old lioness run over by train in area close to Pipavav port in Gujarat

Junagadh: A quite young lioness was run over by a speeding train between Vadali and Charoliya villages close to Pipavav port in Amreli district of Gujarat in the wee hours today.
Forest department team team has recovered the dead body of around 2 year old lioness from the track.
Such incidents often takes place in this area close to the Eastern range of Gir forests, the sole above of Asiatic lions and also home to many wild animals including large number of leopards. Plans to fence the rail track in the forest area was yet to be completed.
The lioness was seemingly run over by a freight train. However the matter was under investigation.
According to the last five yearly lion census a little over 500 lions lived in Gir forests spread across three districts of Amreli, Junagadh and Gir Somnath district and adjoining area of greater Gir.
