Ahmedabad: Despite heaviest downpour of the season in Ahmedabad and some water logging on the runway at the Sardar Vallabbhai Patel International Airport here, the flight operation was normal.
Additionally the airport was also supporting the Indian defence forces flood relief works with landing and taking off of choppers and aircraft.
Airport Director Manoj Gangal today informed this.
He said that the airport being the part of the city has also seen the heavy downpour but despite that its operations have not been affected.
‘Not only our passenger flights operations were normal but over and above we were also supporting the flood relief operations of the army and the air force,’ he said.
Gangal said that one of the heaviest aircraft II-76 of Indian army with rescue and relief materials from Jaisalmer also landed at the airport around 10 am today.
He said that the airport management was trying its best to keep the operations normal despite adverse weather conditions.
Notably at least 5 flights were diverted to Mumbai yesterday owing to rain caused patches on runway.
The city has seen up to 8 inches of rain in last 24 hours which has flooded many areas in the city.
