‘Mirchi Murga’ fame evening RJ of Ahmedabad FM station of Radio Mirchi, RJ Kunal Desai surrendered himself today at Sattelite police station with his lawyers. Kunal has been handed over to Anandnagar police station where complaint has been filed against him and his parents by mother of Kunal’s late wife Bhumi Desai(Panchal). Kunal’s wife Bhumi had committed suicide by jumping from Sachin Tower in Anandnagar police station area. Bhumi had not left any suicide note. Why she selected Sachin tower to committed suicide is still a mystery. Kunal and Bhumi tied nuptial knot in November last year. They were in Thiland on 14 January to celebrate Bhumi’s birthday. After Thiland visit, Bhumi went to her parents’ home and later committed suicide after meeting her old-IT job friend.

Kunal surrendered before police, two days after Bhumi’s mother Kavita Panchal filed complaint against him and his parents. Kunal’s lawyers today said Kunal was in Ahmedabad only, but was taking advises from his lawyers.

After daughter’s suicide, Bhumi’s mother Kavita Panchal had lodged the case under section 498 A (harassment and cruelty against wife for dowry), 306 (abatement of suicide) and 114 (related to abatement of crime) of the IPC and section 3 of the dowry prohibition act. In her complaint Bhumi’s mother has alleged that Kunal a radio jockey with a private FM radio station, who had married her daughter on November 24 last year, had gone abroad for honeymoon and returned on January 18. He and his parents had demanded Rs 25 lakh from Bhumi and also harassed her. In their bail plea, Kunal’s parents termed these allegations as false and baseless.

Kunal and his parents had filed anticipatory bail after Panchal’s complaint.

For 28-year old Bhumi Desai(earlier Panchal) who committed suicide without any note on January 21 this was second marriage. Bhumi and Kunal both felled in love after Bhumi won Dubai trip in Radio Mirchi contest and spent time with Kunal during that trip.

According to Kunal, both of them were in love for one year period and they thenafter decided to marry. Kunal said he and Bhumi were for destination wedding and therefore the wedding ceremony was held in Ranakpur. Kunal also said that he and Bhumi were frequently traveling to different locations post wedding. He said, “though I do a job in private company, and getting leaves was a problem, I took advantage of Uttarayan holidays and decided to go on Thailand trip to celebrate Bhumi’s birthday which was on 14th January. Those who traveled with us can tell about our bonding, our shopping spree etc during the tour. In fact dates of our next international trip were also ready.”

Kunal said he also sent Bhumi’s parents to Mount Abu trip so that they could also enjoy travel. Kunal said there were some usual ego issues but he’s not able to understand why Bhumi should commit suicide due to such issues. She was a strong girl.

Kunal and his parents have termed allegations made by Bhumi’s mother as baseless.

Police sources say Bhumi was upset due to denial of permission to do job by Kunal. Before her suicide act, Bhumi met a friend Mitesh Soni with whom she was working in IT firm in the past. Soon after meeting Mitesh at Cafe Coffee Day, Bhumi went to Sachin Tower’s ‘H’ block and jumped from the top. Before committing suicide she left SMS to Mitesh Soni ‘Suicide Sachin Tower’ and mentioned phone numbers of Kunal and his mother. Bhumi came in car to Sachin Tower. None of her relatives or friends live in Sachin Tower. In this tower complex only two blocks had kept door to terrace open. Bhumi went straight away to the top one of such block.

Local dailies and TV channel are covering Bhumi Desai’s suicide case prominently. RJ Kunal went to studio of one of the news channels and cried constantly. He sought support of media and his fans and not make entire issue a media event. He requested to respect his privacy. He said whatever he thought, could be a reason of suicide had been communicated to police in a statement. He said Both he and Bhumi were in love for over one year period and he was taking care of Bhumi’s parents even more than his own parents. He admitted that he couldn’t give enough time to Bhumi after they returned from Thailand due to an athletics related event he was part of.

Kunal deleted his Facebook page hours after local media started covering Bhumi Desai murder case prominently. This page was very popular among those who wanted to enjoy ‘Mirchi Murga’ show online for some dose of laughter.

Kunal is likely to produce him before a local court tonight to seek his remand for further investigation.
