The wildlife team today recovered 63 migratory birds of six species from a boat of a suspected poacher in the Nal Sarovar Bird Sanctuary, DFO of the sanctuary R G Prajapati said.
The 63 birds of Common Pochard, Ferrugenious Pochard, Gadwall, Wigeon, Shoveler and Coot species recovered from a boat on the bank of the lake near Ranagarh village have been left in Thol Wildlife Sanctuary situated across Ahmedabad and Mahesana districts, after treatment for ‘shock’ in our local birds care unit, the DFO said.
‘Efforts were on to nab the poacher who fled leaving the boat behind. He has been identified by our guards and is a resident of Ranagarh village. He will soon be nabbed,’ he said.
Nal Sanctuary, a well know destination of migratory birds from Central Asia, Europe and Siberia, is situated across Ahmedabad and Surendranagar districts in around 120.82 sq. km area.
A bird festival will be held in the sanctuary in the first week of next month, Mr Prajapati said.
