Ahmedabad, 9 February 2012
India’s premier English news channel TimesNow today brought seven main points of Supreme Court appointed Special Investigation Team(SIT) report in public. They are presented below. Also given above is a related video.
-No charge has been proved against the CM regarding conspiracy. This was the main charge in Zakia’s petition.
-There was no prior information to the CM regarding imminent threats Ehsan Jafri’s life.
-Steps taken by the CM to control the riots were appropriate and in context with the prevailing law and order situation of the state.
-Decision oof bringing bodies from Godhra to Ahmedabad was right because Godhra was tense. Most karsevaks from Ahmedabad and nearby area. Ahmedabad was the best place for identification of bodies. Sola civil hospital was on outskirts of Ahmedabad and the bodies were broght in only at night. Cold storage and DNA testing facilities were not available in Godhra. So bringing bodies to Ahmedabad was justified.
-SIT finds Sanjiv Bhatt an unreliable witness. Questioning of Bhatt, his driver Tara Chand Yadav and other officers present at the February 27 meeting at the CM’s residence(together) made them conclude there was no substance in Sanjiv Bhatt’s story.
-Amicus Curie Raju Ramchandran’s help was taken and he has agreed with the SIT on all major issues.
